SUN Spine Program
Balloon Kyphoplasty
Unicondylar Program
| SUN Spine Program
Back and neck pain come in many forms - sudden or persistent,
sharp or dull. Symptoms may be localized to a specific area
of the spine, or may radiate into the shoulders, arms, buttocks,
legs, or even the feet. There are many different causes of
back pain, but the main reason is muscle strain and spasm
which can result from heavy physical work, awkward bending
or twisting, even poor posture.
The SUN Spine Program can alleviate
pain and restore mobility - without surgery. After a body-mechanic
evaluation, we design a specialized four-week, 12-step program
just for you. Education is one vital component
- you learn what caused your condition and how to prevent
it from happening again. The most effective Exercises
and Physical Therapy provide relief from your suffering.

| Balloon Kyphoplasty
Balloon Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive treatment in which
orthopaedic balloons are used to gently move the bone back
to the correct position. Before the procedure, you will have
diagnostic studies, such as x-rays and magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI), to determine the exact location of the fracture.
Balloon Kyphoplasty can be done under local or general anesthesia.
With a small instrument, the surgeon creates a narrow pathway
into the fractured bone. A small, orthopaedic balloon is guided
through the instrument into the vertebra. The incision site
is approximately 1cm in length.
Next, the balloon is carefully inflated in an attempt to
raise the collapsed vertebra and return it to its normal position.
Once the vertebra is in the correct position, the balloon
is deflated and removed. This process creates a void (cavity)
within the vertebral body.
The cavity is filled with a special cement to support the
surrounding bone and prevent further collapse.
The cement forms an internal cast that holds the vertebra
in place. Generally, the procedure is done on both sides of
the vertebral body.
Some of the procedure benefits include reduction in back
pain, improvement in quality of life, improvement in mobility
and improvement in ability to perform activities of daily
living

| Unicondylar
Program
The Unicondylar Program is a unique treatment option offering
distinct advantages over total knee replacement surgery.
Many patients have benefited from this unique approach to
the treatment of unicondylar osteoarthritis of the knee. A
smaller incision, shorter recovery time, and restored mobility,
while retaining the healthy portion of the knee are just a
few reasons why patients and SUN Orthopaedic choose the Unicondylar
Program.
